RALLY UPDATES

2022 RECAP

Even though I only drove one rally and a couple rally sprints this year I learnt so much from doing a season co driving for Jonty. The highlight was winning our national class and competing in the 2022 Rally NZ - World Rally Championship round. This was an awesome experience and something that was on the bucket list. By co driving for the NZ championship in 2022 it allowed me to put energy and focus into my driving opportunities for 2023 and I can confirm there is some very exciting news coming.... See you all in the new year!!

CANTERBURY RALLY 2022

Canterbury Rally was an interesting experience for me this year. At the last minute my co driver had to pull out due to an injury and because I write my own notes finding a co driver to fill in and take on this task was quite the challenge. Friday before recce on Saturday I was calling anyone I could think of who might be able to make it happen. Luckily I succeeded and had Teri come up from down South to help me out. She did an amazing job and learnt very quickly how to write notes. We had another fantastic weekend and I really cherished every moment driving again. The roads were tricky being in the forest with a lot of rain having fallen the days before. Some parts were fast before it'd turn tight and twisty. Some roads were grippy while others were incredibly slippery but we stayed on the road to achieve a successful 4th in class and 39th overall.

OTAGO RALLY 2022

This Otago rally I took on a new challenge and decided to co drive for a good mate of mine and what a week it was!

We had a huge week and it wasn't without it's challenges but we made it to the end with some pretty big achievements. We achieved first in our class.

As much as driving is my true passion I think it's a really good skill to learn the co drivers job too.

I plan to do more co driving with Jonty this season while I plan what comes next for my driving career. There's exciting times to come!

2021 RECAP

2021 was another tough year with covid lockdowns still continuing, creating a lot of uncertainty and cancelling many events. Time behind the wheel is very precious so I am grateful that again we got to compete in two rallies and some local events to keep the brain & body sharp.

I feel that this year I did my best driving despite the lack of competitive mileage which makes me very excited going into the next couples seasons as I look to really master rallying and perhaps upgrade the Corolla.

We will see what the future holds but I'll be pushing on in 2022!

CANTERBURY RALLY 2021

Canterbury rally was on fast public roads this year. I had my original co driver Bri Little back in the car writing and reading our pace notes. We had so much fun and great reliability all weekend which helped us achieve 37th overall.

OTAGO RALLY 2021

I was so spoilt to spend last weekend racing around Otago's gravel roads. Like always these roads are some of the best in the country, fast, flowing and plenty of crests... you can't get much better. We were over the moon to achieve 5th in class and 42nd overall! This was an awesome result in the mighty Corolla, we learnt so much and kept the pace up all weekend. My co driver Blake Murch did an awesome job calling the notes. This just gives the whole team more motivation for future rallies!

2020 Recap

2020 was a challenging year with covid and lockdowns putting a halt on a lot of our rally events but I was lucky to still compete in some local sprints and most importantly Canterbury & South Canterbury Rally.

I was very grateful to win the Autosport 1600cc class for 2020 and the ladies trophy. Thank you to Autosport my local for putting on many great events despite a challenging year.

I also can't show enough appreciation to all the people who have helped me throughout the year and I really look forward to giving it another go in 2021!

CANTERBURY RALLY 2020

Despite 2020 being a difficult year for the whole world we were lucky enough to get back on the gravel and have some fun.

Canterbury rally was one of my best yet, our notes were good and the car pace was awesome. We had a great day of close battles and tried new things throughout the day learning more about what works well and what doesn't.

Now we are back into a long break but look forward to getting back on the gas in 2021.

WAITOMO RALLY

The last round of the NZRC was held in Hamilton/Waitomo. We started this round 2nd in the championship, 1st in rookie and 2nd in the junior.
Recce went really well but was a super long day. With huge stages going through the in car and checking our notes was a big job.
The night before the rally it poured down making the stages slippery and more challenging on the day. Again like Coromandel these roads were tight and twisty with the end of stage three being the tightest rallying i have competed.
Throughout the day we worked our way up our class to finish the rally in 2nd place.
This gave is enough points to come 2nd overall in the championship which was a huge achievement in our first season of rallying.
I also came away with 2nd in the rookie and junior championship to finish of a good year of rallying.

Watch this space for an announcement on our plans for the 2020 season...

COROMANDEL RALLY

I loved the first two stages, we changed between seal and gravel and the speed changed throughout the stage several times too.
Coromandel was a short rally with 7 gravel stages, one seal stage and one stage repeated three times however it was an incredibly busy rally. The tight and twisty roads kept me busy behind the wheel. Even during touring it was corner after corner.
We worked on pace throughout the day although i had never driven on roads as challenging before we learnt heaps and enjoyed the rally a lot.
Again we managed to get a podium finish and got some more points putting us third in championship going into the last round at Waitomo...

Got to spend my weekend going sideways again at South Canterbury Rally!

I couldn't have asked for better weekend, we took a massive risk by deciding to write our own notes after having only done two noted rallies, luckily it ended up really working for us. After two days of recce we watched all our in car going over the notes with a fine tooth comb and once happy we prepared for another day of rallying, consisting of 12 stages (200km).

We had a great time and picked up the pace throughout the day, what a fun but technical rally. Doing laps around levels for the last stage took me back to my circuit racing days, it is slightly different with gravel tyres on.

We now sit second in our NZRC class and I am currently leading the rookie championship! Can't wait to see how the rest of our season plays out...
